Star Wars, Poems of the Week, and Peaceful Warriors
Have you gotten your hands on the latest issue of Matrix Magazine yet? The online version isn't available yet but you can take a peek at the original cover art by illustrator Evan Munday here. It's got your favourites from the Star Wars rogue gallery, sharing a relaxing afternoon in the kitchen.
This weeks poems on the Parliamentary Poet Laureate's website are "Italia Mea Amor" by Guernica Editions founder, Antonio D'Alfonso and "Ton instrument" by Sarah Marylou Brideau.
I saw Peaceful Warrior, the film adaptation of Dan Millman's inspirational bestseller, Way of the Peaceful Warrior and unfortunately I was quite disappointed. I really wanted to like it because I loved the book when I was in high school but the story just didn't translate into film. The script was corny, the acting so-so (although Nick Nolte's portrayal of the eccentric Socrates was dead-on in my opinion) and the film never really delved into what a "peaceful warrior" was. The passage of time may have left my memory of the book somewhat rose coloured but perhaps it's because Dan Millman didn't have much to do with the actual movie.
If you'd like to see a movie adaptation that did translate well, I'd recommend Shop Girl. Steve Martin wrote the screenplay so although he changes a few things, the movie remains very faithful to the essence of the novella.
