Internet working again (sort of...)

My phone lines are working again but the dial-up hardware on my laptop has been burnt to a crisp so in the meantime I'm using my old desktop computer.

I saw Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and let me tell ya, watching grown men with bad teeth, sneering "Yaaaar matey", always leaves me in a good mood. Since Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow schtick was so original the first time around, the novelty of seeing Depp waving his hands around and staggering has somewhat worn off. Any movie, however, that contains the mythical Kraken can be forgiven for any failings. It's the Kraken for crying out loud!

Last week Josh invited me to Ottawa for the Blues Festival and I saw some great acts including Michael Franti and Spearhead(who, by the way, are releasing their new album, Yell Fire! on July 25) and the always great Ani DiFranco.

My favourite part of the fest, though, was discovering the talents of Indio Saravanja. It was just him and his guitar in front of the audience but his understated music and lyrics blew me away. I picked up his album immediately after the concert and talked to him briefly to get him to sign my copy. If you have a chance, try to listen to his songs, "Northern Town" and "First Communion"; Indio's a great singer/songwriter.
