Argo Featured Reading #11: Stuart Ross & Greg Santos

I am so thrilled about this upcoming reading with Stuart Ross at Argo Bookshop. I can hardly keep myself from exploding. I haven't read from The Emperor's Sofa in Montreal since it was originally launched back in April of 2011. Now that I've moved back, it's a bit of a homecoming for me. I'm also really, really looking forward to reading with Stuart and getting my hands on his new book, You Exist. Details Follow. Please come out and say hello. This reading is going to be mega epic.

Considered to be Canada’s foremost writer of the surreal, Stuart Ross will be reading at the Argo from his seventh full-length collection of poetry,You Exist. Details Follow. (Anvil Press, 2012) alongside the Ashberyian ironies and McGimpseyian pleasures of Greg Santos and his latest collection, The Emperor’s Sofa (DC Books, 2010).

About Stuart Ross's latest book:
In his seventh full-length poetry collection You Exist. Details Follow., Stuart Ross veers in opposite directions: narrative confessional poems, and works that might be considered abstract expressionist, and a lot both in between and beyond those boundaries. Each poem breathes with the signature weirdness, the sharp wit, and gentle awe that Ross is known for. Here you’ll find confounding centos, fractured sonnets, delirious lists, poems composed through surrealist strategies, a new addition toRoss’s autobiographical Razovsky series, and more.

About Stuart Ross:
Stuart Ross is a poet, fiction writer, and essayist. He is the author of about a dozen books and countless chapbooks. His story collection Buying Cigarettes for the Dog won the 2010 ReLit Award for Short Fiction. Stuart is the fiction and poetry editor for This Magazine, a regular columnist for subTerrain, and has his own imprint, a stuart ross book, at Mansfield Press. He was the 2010 Writer in Residence at Queen's University, and has led writing workshops across the country.

About Greg Santos's book:
The Emperor’s Sofa is a road trip that veers smoothly from the elegiac to the dubious; from faraway hotel rooms to quiet rides in the country, from perfect strangers to infomercials at 4 AM... As Todd Swift wrote, Greg Santos’ poems are the stuff of "deranged heroes and unmasked anti-heroic marvels – funny, poignant, and profound."

About Greg Santos:
Greg Santos was born and raised in Montreal. He has studied at Mount Allison (Sackville, NB), Concordia (Montreal, QC), Columbia (New York, NY) universities, and received an MFA in Creative Writing from The New School (New York, NY). His writing has appeared in numerous periodicals and anthologies, includings McSweeney's, Nthposition, The Best American Poetry, The Feathertale Review, Matrix, Cha: An Asian Literary Journal, Rogue Stimulus (Mansfield Press, 2010), The Future Hygienic (PistolPress, 2009), Dingers: Contemporary Baseball Writing (DC Books, 2007), and as a featured 'Parliamentary Poem of the Week' selection. He is also the author of the chapbook Tweet Tweet Tweet (Corrupt Press, 2011). He currently works as a writing instructor and is the poetry co-editor for the Quebec Writers' Federation's online literary magazine carte blanche.
