They've announced the National Book Critics Circle Award finalists and the big news is Joyce Carol Oates has been nominated for both fiction AND autobiography. Why stop there? Here's to hoping that she gets nominated for every other category as well the next time around.
As for the poetry finalists, congrats to Matthea Harvey for the nomination of her book Modern Life. It is a remarkably imaginative and ambitious collection of poetry, in particular the sections entitled "The Future of Terror" and "The Terror of the Future" where Harvey imagines a post-apocalyptic America. Spooky and engaging stuff!
