Happy Bloomsday

Bloomsday is an annual holiday celebrated on June 16th to celebrate the life of Irish writer James Joyce and to commemorate the events in his novel, Ulysses, all of which take place on the same day in Dublin in 1904. James Joyce's Dubliners is one of my favourite story collections and it contains, "The Dead", one of the all time great masterpieces in the short story form. While today should be a day of celebration, in Dublin, Joyce fans have little to rejoice; Bloomsday has been cancelled. Read the article here: Bloomsday cancelled in Dublin.

Read this weeks Poems of the Week on the Parlimentary Poet Laureate's website. The poets this time around are Carolyn Marie Souaid and J.R. Leveille.
