A friend of mine lent me the first three episodes of the TV show Firefly that was cancelled by FOX after only 9 episodes a few years ago. The show may have not lasted very long but it found new life when the series was released on DVD and after overwhelming sales and interest, Universal bought the rights to make the movie Serenity .

Firefly mixes sci-fi and the western to create a wholly original series about the ragtag crew of a small transport ship that takes on criminal assignments to survive in a wild space frontier. That's a simple description but it has some of the best writing I've seen on television in years. The characters are great, the plots are incredibly interesting, and I mean the creator/ main writer of the show is Joss Whedon, of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fame. What more can I say? Just watch it!

Once I finish the DVD, I'm itching to go see the movie which supposedly takes place after the series ends. I hope it's still in theatres...
