The great American novelist, Kurt Vonnegut, is dead at 84. This news is just so sad. I was starting off my day by reading e-mails and when I opened my Globe & Mail newsletter, Vonnegut's death was the first headline I saw. I read Slaughterhouse-Five in high-school and I remember being floored by his writing; it was like nothing I'd ever read before. He deftly mixed science-fiction, humor, and political commentary to create a style that was distinct and inimitable. The world will miss his much-needed satirical and political voice.
