Ondaatje to the big screen

Michael Onaatje lovers rejoice! His seminal book, Coming Through Slaughter, has been optioned by producer Paul Maslansky for feature-film development. My only apprehension is that Maslansky is perhaps best known for producing the Police Academy series. Can you imagine Michael Winslow - you know that sound effects guy - being cast in it? It would be cool but oh so very inappropriate for the tone of the film.
