Babylon Burning

The 5th year anniversary of September 11th is coming very soon and now that I'm currently residing in the United States and commuting to New York on a regular basis, it makes that date even more poignant. Of course one shouldn't think about September 11th as exclusively American. The events that occurred on that date are constant reminders of the hatred and violence people continue to wage on one another on a regular basis across our globe.

Todd Swift, the expat Montreal poet currently making his home across the pond in England has edited an anthology called Babylon Burning: 9/11 five years on, which contains the works of nearly 90 poets from around the world on the tragedy and its consequences. The anthology is available for free as a pdf file, but there is a request to donate to the Red Cross, which helps people caught up in disasters and conflicts, whoever and wherever they may be.

A paperback version of the anthology will be available soon, with all the profits going to the Red Cross. In the meantime, enjoy this free edition, which includes works from Stephanie Bolster, Jason Camlot, bill bissett, Charles Bernstein, Pauline Michel, Goran Simic, John Stiles, Hal Sirowitz, and many more.
