7.1.06

Have you picked up issue #72 of the always enjoyable literary magazine Matrix? I suggest you do because it's chock full of goodies. As always Matrix delivers witty and articulate writing by some of the more interesting writers Montreal and Canada has to offer.

The most recent issue has David McGimpsey's "The Self-Esteem Workout", an interview with Stephen Cain (of American Standard / Canada Dry fame), and Steve Luxton's writes about his obsession with cowboys, including two Doc Holliday poems from his book Luna Moth and other poems (Finally! Another Canadian poet who loves the old west as much as I do).

Some other personal faves of mine are Anastasia Jones's Archie Comic poems, Zoe Whittall's love/hate letter to Molly Ringwald, and the bizarre yet hilarious The Worst Children in Christendom by Emily Dore.

I also recommend checking out Jon Paul Fiorentino's "Endnotes" which briefly addresses the current trend for young poets to bash university-educated and pop culture engaged writers. It's an interesting read.
