Bidding adieu to Thanksgiving and hello to Yom Kippur

Turkey day is over (in our family's case, it was lamb day) and our waistlines are a little bit wider. I had a great weekend filled with food, family, friends, and um felines. Well, no felines but a guy can wish can't he?

Maryn's visit went by very quickly but we had a great time nonetheless. We were able to see Roman Polanski's, Oliver Twist which was quite the spectacle.

I had never read Dickens' novel but I played the Artful Dodger in my high-school's production of Oliver which had so many light and fluffy songs that I was shocked to see Polanski's bleak vision unfold on film.

The only name I knew was Ben Kingsley who was unrecognizable as Fagin. Kingsley is one of those actors who has chameleon-like abilities, being versatile enough to play Mahatma Gandhi and a broken down character like Fagin.

I recommend the film however be warned, this isn't a happy Disneyfied Oliver, so expect to see some very troubling scenes.
