The Open Mic Life: CASE’s 1st Open Mic Night
CASE (Concordia Association for Students in English) hosted their first open mic for 2005 at the Old Dublin Pub on Thursday, September 22. The doors opened at 8pm and didn’t start until past 9 but this allowed a larger crowd to assemble on the second floor of one of Montreal’s best known Irish Pubs.
The evening was made up of three sets and performers brave enough to sign up early were awarded free beers. Raffle tickets were also handed out at the start of the night and you know you’ve entered a bar filled with English students when bookstore coupons are being offered as prizes.
Acts consisted of a wide spectrum of styles such as poetry, spoken word, haikus, fractured folktales, fiction, music, and comedy. As one of the performers, it was a thrill to watch my peers and experience the variety of creative local talent that Concordia has to offer.
The Open Mic was a great way to kick of the year and it was the first of many CASE related events. If you’d like to know more about upcoming literary happenings, you can contact CASE at case@alcor.concordia.ca or visit their website at http://www.cybercase.cjb.net.
