This afternoon Maryn and I made our way over to the bandstand park to celebrate Canada's 138th birthday. Not only is it a day to celebrate the birth of our country but it is also the 40th Anniversary of our nation's flag.

George Stanley, a Mount Allison professor who headed the first Canadian Studies program in the country is credited with designing the flag along with John Matheson. George Stanley passed away in 2002 but we were lucky to have his widow present at the ceremony to share some anecdotes about the creation of the flag. If you want more information about him, take a look at this site: Canada Day in Sackville.

The sky was cloudy and it looked like rain but in the end the weather cooperated and we had a great time. There was a marching band, a short play honouring the flag, highland dancers, cake, BBQ, ice cream... Everyone had a flag waving good time.

The program I use to post photographs is offline at the moment but I'll be putting them online as soon as everything is working again.
