Yesterday I risked life and limb to venture into downtown Montreal during freezing rain but it was definetly worth it. It was my last day of classes and I was determined to have a great evening. Frozen ice pellets or not.

I went to Club One on St. Catherine to attend David McGimpsey's launch for his first book of short fiction entitled: Certifiable. Montreal poet, John Paul Fiorentino MC'd the evening and let me tell you, fun was had by all. There were two readings done, a 'longish' poem by Jason Camlot and a reading by a first time novelist - whose name I fail to remember.

They were enjoyable but the evening truly belonged to Dave - complete with cowboy hat and Deep Purple t-shirt and his band Puggy Hammer. For those of you wondering what kind of band, Puggy is, I'd say they are a lot like Tenacious D and Corky and the Juice Pigs - though with a literary twist. They're loud, abrasive, and of course funny as hell. I mean, you can't go wrong with songs about Elvis' pet monkey named Scatters or with lyrics like "Internet porn, it's good for you... like a whole wheat bun".

I was joined by a group of my friends from our poetry class and we all agreed how weird it was to be rocking out to a band, whose lead singer and guitarist was our Professor. I had a blast and I am really glad I went out despite the lousy weather.

Anyway, that's all for now. Remember, keep on rawking the free world!
