Good afternoon Moondoggy readers. It's a chilly Sunday and it's bound to get even worse with the looming snowstorm that's going to hit most of Eastern Canada starting this evening. But regardless of the weather, I am really starting to get into the holiday spirit. Yesterday my mother and I bought our Christmas tree and it looks really nice. I just love the pine tree smell, it really reminds me of Christmas-which is only eleven days away! I have four classes left coming up this week then I'll be finished, and I'll be able to enjoy my holidays.

I'm sure everyone has heard the news already, but for those of you that haven't, Saddam Hussein has finally been captured. This is great news however I think we should still be very careful because his capture will not put an end to the violence. It's a great symbolic victory but the next few steps have to be done very carefully. It'll be interesting to see how things play out.

Here's an interesting post made by Moby on Moby.com:

War In Iraq
12/14/2003 - New York City

ok, let's talk about the war in iraq, and one of the more salient issues.
the issue that i'd like to talk about is not whether saddam hussein was a bad man (he was/is). the issue is not whether iraq was a dictatorship (it was/is).
the issue is why we went to war.
we went to war because the bush administration said that saddam hussein had weapons of mass destruction and because the bush administration said that iraq was supporting al qaeda and because the bush administration said that iraq was developing nuclear weapons.
and, just to be clear, we now know that iraq had no weapons of mass destruction, was not supporting al qaeda, and was not developing nuclear weapons.
and, just to be clear, we now know that the bush administration knew these things all along and lied to the american people and to congress about the reasons for waging war against iraq.
i know i sound redundant, but i'm trying to make a point...
the right wing in america are now trying to say that the war in iraq was a war to rid the world of a malevolent dictator.
but that's not the issue. there are lots of malevolent dictators in the world and the u.s either supports them or ignores them.
the right is also trying to say that the war was waged to end tyranny and suffering in iraq. well, hundreds of millions of people are suffering under tyranny in other countries and the u.s does nothing to help them.
the right wing in america are trying to get away with a huge lie by pretending that they never lied. but they did, and they shouldn't be allowed to get away with it.
if you break into my house to steal my tv and end up feeding my cat while you're stealing my tv you can't go to the police and say that you broke into my house to feed my cat. and that's what the right wing in america are trying to do with the war in iraq, they're trying to pretend that bush and his cabinet never lied and that the real reason for the war in iraq was to free the iraqi people from a tyrannical dictator.
but, just to be clear, bush and his cabinet lied. they lied through their teeth. they lied over and over again. they lied to anyone and everyone who was willing to listen.
they said iraq had weapons of mass destruction when they clearly knew from cia intelligence that iraq had no weapons of mass destruction.
they said iraq had al qaeda ties when they clearly knew from cia intelligence that iraq had no al qaeda ties.
they said iraq was developing nuclear weapons when they clearly knew that from cia intelligence that iraq was not developing nuclear weapons.
i know that i've said this all before, but it hasn't stopped being true.
and now the bush administration and the right wing are trying to pretend that they never said what they did in fact say. they lied and even if they're never held accountable for lying we all need to know that when you look at bush or rumsfeld or rice or powell or cheney that you're looking at someone who has lied to congress and to the american people.
