"Do not seek to follow in the footsteps of the wise. Seek what they sought."

Another rainy day in Montreal. It seems like this humidity, and rain will never end. Maybe it'll keep on raining for days and days and I'll have to fashion an ark out of the bamboo trees behind my house... although I highly doubt it.
I recently finished Dave Eggar's first novel "You Shall Know Our Velocity" and for the most part I enjoyed it. However the ending left something more to be desired. I'm the kind of person who likes a good book to leave me satisfied with the ending and in this case it left me wanting more.
Of the books I've read recently, Jack Kerouac's "Dharma Bums" has stuck out in my mind as being one with a fine ending, leaving me happy, and content. I put down that book with a huge smile on my face, feeling totally satisfied. Even more so than his masterpiece "On The Road". In fact, I didn't quite like "On the Road" as much as his less famous "Dharma Bums". He jumped around too much and I got bored of his characters after a while. Dean Moriarty was a crazy dude... I know, I get it. You don't have to keep reminding me.
Perhaps it was because Kerouac was on more of a spiritual journey that I could relate to in "Dharma Bums" than his benadrine induced ramblings from "On The Road". In any case, if you're a Kerouac fan you have to read "On the Road" because it made the man famous. But "Dharma Bums" will always remain my favourite of his works with it's simple beauty and the insights of a man who sees through the playful eyes of a child yet realizes he is still a man in a crazy world.
That's all folks. Goodnight.
