When is a door not a door?
When it's ajar
Good morning Moondoggy-ites. I just finished watching the 1986 film "Down By Law" by Jim Jarmusch starring singer Tom Waits, John Lurie and in his first American role, Roberto Benigni. A great film which I think not very many people have ever seen. I don't really know where to start in describing it because I don't think I'd be able to do it justice so I'll just include the blurb from the back of the DVD case:
When fate hands three hapless men - an unemployed disc jockey (Tom Waits), a small-time pimp (John Lurie), and a strong-willed Italian tourist (Roberto Benigni) - in a Louisiana prison, their singular advernture begins. Described by director Jim Jarmusch as a "neo-beat-noir-comedy," DOWN BY LAW is part nightmare and part fairytale..."
I've only recently been introduced to Tom Waits' music but it was great to see him act and see that he is not only a talented musician but also a very capable and convincing actor. I dowloaded a few of his songs today from Amazon.ca and I think I found a new musician to listen to.
I didn't write in my Blog yesterday but I would just like to add what a great experience it was to attend the Youth Employment Service Artist Conference at the Centaur Theatre. I heard some very interesting people talk, took part in several workshops, was able to meet Steve Galluccio the playwright to "Mambo Italiano" and I was also able to speak with the very eccentric artist/illustrator Bruce Roberts. The whole day was very informative and highly entertaining.
It's getting late so I think I'm going to get a little shut-eye. Goodnight.
