Watching "Sleepy Hollow"
Today was another long day however I'm going to be able to sleep in because I have no classes on Thursdays. Huzzah! The day was uneventuful as a whole but during my Introduction to Prose class we had a special guest. Mark Jarman author of "Salvage King, Ya!" and "19 Knives: A collection of short stories" came to talk to the class and read some of his works. It was great to hear from a real Canadian author and have him talk about the process of writing stories, and how he came up with his ideas. Hearing him talk inspired me and after the class was over, I ran home to write a little bit. I found it interesting that Mark Jarman doesn't outline his stories when he first starts writing them but imagines key scenes and then builds from them. That is very much the same technique I use when writing so it was refreshing to find out that a professional author actually writes like that. It makes me feel a little more comfortable about my writing skills.
